In this episode of the ElmoreLeonard.com Podcast, I talk with Dutch about The Hot Kid book tour and our Tulsa kickoff at the Mayo Hotel — a place we scouted together that became a key setting in The Hot Kid. Oklahoma’s governor even declared it Elmore Leonard Day.
Then Dutch and I discuss recent film adaptations. He’s blunt about what went wrong with The Big Bounce (both versions) and Be Cool, and why Get Shorty got it right. We also touch on projects in the works at the time: Tishomingo Blues with Don Cheadle and Killshot with John Madden. Dutch reads a long favorite passage from Killshot — “the bad guys at home” — that captures his knack for twisted, believable characters.
