One day, Dutch asked me to find him a high diver — a guy who could dive 80 feet into a pool of water. It was an occupation which fascinated him. So, I found the Maxwell High Diving Company and talked to Dean Maxwell, who invited Dutch and me down to Panama City Beach, Florida, in May of 2000, to the Miracle Strip Amusement Park to witness the set up of the tank and ladder, and watch their first show of the season, including a high dive from 80 feet.
We met all the divers that day, but focused our attention on Danny Cosmo, a veteran high diver who became our go-to guy on the profession. Danny was instrumental in helping Dutch shape Dennis Lenahan, the high diver in Tishomingo Blues. Like many of our research subjects, he became our good friend.
